Sampling traditional Latin cuisine at
Floridita is a true culinary adventure. Though the menu features
popular American comfort foods, this eatery's small village fair
keeps the local Latin population in attendance. The menu is
vast, the food is a sure shot, and the price is right!
There is no dress code in this diner style
restaurant. Beautiful women dressed in the Floridita black and
white uniform can sidetrack your mind from the many choices on
the menu. An early stop for the working class begins at 6:00
a.m., when you can order a traditional breakfast. For the Latin
food buff, try the queso frito y juevos (fried cheese and eggs),
mongul, or pescado y papas (fish and chips). For the less
adventurous, the hotcakes and sausage are an excellent
alternative.
The lunch specials, which consist of such
staples as arroz con pollo (chicken with rice), chulettas (pork
chops), or rabo (oxtails), have traditional Spanish flair.
Though the portions are large and the meals are piping hot, you
will be hard-pressed to spend more than $6.00. The Cuban pressed
sandwich (roast pork, ham and Swiss cheese) is an economic and
culinary delight. The lines can be long, so try to call ahead
for pick-up or delivery.
Though Floridita is open late, the pickings
might be slim after the dinner rush. The lucky late night diner
can enjoy a midnight snack of paella, steaks, chops, or grilled
fish, with all of the trimmings. If you are in the mood for a
simpler meal, the burgers rival the best in town.
Two thumbs way up for
Floridita!
